Evalyn Marie Toulouse Redman grew up in McDonald, Pennsylvania, in Washington County and attended schools there. Her father was from France and her mother was Lithuanian. She had two brothers and three sisters including a sister, Dorothy, who was the reason that she eventually relocated to Pittsburgh where she met her husband, Robert Redman.
