In Loving Memory
Jean Hedenburg
(April 25, 1927 – September 4, 2010)
Shirley Jean "Jean" Morrow Hedenburg grew up in Oakland and went to Frick and Schenley schools. She attended the Pennsylvania College For Women (now Chatham) where she received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. She married Jack Hedenburg in her junior year in December of 1946 since it was the longest school holiday. She worked in a research lab at Children's Hospital then went to the University of Pittsburgh where she received an MEd and taught elementary school in the Allegheny Valley for 28 years. She and Jack had three children, Suzanne (deceased), Jacqueline and Don. At First Baptist Church, Jean taught Sunday School, helped with decorating and Christmas parties, Vacation Bible School and coffee hours. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening and sewing and machine embroidery on ties, shirts and towels. Her dedication to First Baptist Church and her long standing marriage served as a marvelous example to the Young Adults.
Dr. Edwin Tuller
(1913 - 2009)
Dr. Edwin Tuller was the former American Baptist Convention General Secretary and a strong advocate for human and civil rights.
His ardent support of the Civil Rights movement is evidenced by his appearance on the platform behind Dr. King in the famous "I Have a Dream" speech. Dr. Tuller was a faithful member of the worshipping congregation at FBC, one who warmly welcomed young adults during the service and coffee hour and he is sadly missed by all who knew him.
