| Summer Activities 2010 Sunday, May 23, 2010 The weather prevented the Young Adults from taking their intended hike to McConnell's Mill but instead Pastor Gary gave us each a penny and led us on a tour of Oakland, pointing out historic sites along the way. We stopped at Heinz Chapel to enjoy the stained glass by Charles J. Connick, who also designed the stained windows at First Baptist Church. We tossed our pennies into the Mary Schenley Memorial Fountain, also known as A Song to Nature, a 1918 landmark public sculpture in bronze and granite by Victor David Brenner who is famous for his design of the Lincoln cent. We also went down 133 steps into the "woods" before finding our way back to the church. See pictures of our adventure at Oakland Hike. Saturday, June 19, 2010 Pastor Gary, Angie, Megan, Chad, Petroula, Zach, Kristina, Sonya, George, Gwen, Margot, Ellen, Sean and Casey joined us at Global Links for a time of repackaging medical supplies that are discarded by local hospitals but can be sorted and used by medical providers in the Third World. Just two hours of our time literally saved thousands of lives. Afterwards, we returned to the church for a lunch of pizza, grapes, snacks, brownies and Megan's spectacular cheesecake with caramel sauce. See pictures of our service project at Global Links. Wednesday, July 28, 2010 Petroula, Meredith, Angie, Jeremy, Megan, Sonya, Karen and Alan spent a very warm summer evening trying to eat ice cream at Handel's that ranged from choclate raspberry truffle to banana cream pie before it melted. We followed that up with a quick trip to the dollar store for snacks and treats and other surprises before the movie. See pictures of our summer outing at Movie Night. | |
